Athena bust

308L
Athena the goddess of wisdom, found at Piraaeus. The beautiful helmet is one of the most striking features of the statue. Some of the usual attributes associated with Athena are to be found on the helmet. On each side of the crest a griffin is to be seen; the familiar snake winds itself around the crest and a pair of owls is placed lower down on the front.
