The Diadem Wearer. Life size bust one of the most famous figural types of the sculptor Polykletos, forming a basic pattern of Ancient Greek sculpture that all present strictly idealised representations of young male athletes in a convincingly naturalistic manner. A ribbon-band on his head identifies the winner.
Found on the island of Delos and dated to 5th. century B.C. National Archaeological Museum, Athens.
Made of bonded marble and coated with a special marble patina.
