Athenian Helmet with owl

Athenian helmet with engraved owl dated 490 BC.

Athens was the richest and most famous city-state in ancient Greece. Its sea-faring trade reached from Gibraltar in the West to the Middle East. Together with Sparta and other allied Greek city-states, they defeated the much larger Persian invasion army in the 5th century BC. Athens is considered the city where Philosophy, Democracy and the Dramatic Arts were born.

The helmet bears an engraved owl, the emblem of goddess of wisdom Athena, patron god of the city bearing her name.

Handmade in Greece of solid bronze, an exact museum reproduction. Helmet includes stand.
