This amphora features on one side Achilles killing the Queen of the Amazons, Penthesilea. Penthesilea is down already pierced by Achilles' spear. Note the conventional use of white for female flesh.(find out more about Achilles...)

Reverse side, Dionysus holding his kantharos and ivy branches with his son Oinopion, who holds the wine jug. Oinopion is naked, with sparing but flowing incision indicating anatomical details.(find out more about Dionysus...)About 530 BC. British Museum, London.
