An exquisite Greek Orthodox Icon of St. John Chrysostom, handmade & handpainted by an expert Greek hagiographer.
St. John, named Chrysostom (golden-mouthed) on account of his eloquence (344-407 AD) was born in the city of Antioch.
In 398, he was elevated to the See of Constantinople and became one of the greatest lights of the Church. But he had enemies in high places not the least being the empress Eudoxia, who was offended by the apostolic freedom of his discourses. Several accusations were brought against him in a pseudo-council, and he was sent into exile.to Pythius, at the very extremity of the Empire. He died on his way there on September 14, 407.
Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques. It is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.
The icon bears the artist’s signature on the front and the certificate of authenticity on the back.
We can have any image or Christian scene hand made on commission. Please take a look at an indicative list of additional icons available, or contact us for more information.
