A beautiful Greek Orthodox icon of Panaghia Portatitissa (Keeper of the Gate), handmade & hand painted by an expert Greek hagiographer.
The original icon was painted by Luke the Evangelist and is referred to as "Wonderworking" meaning that numerous miracles have been attributed to the intercession of the Theotokos (Mother of God) by persons praying before it. The original of this image is found in the Georgian Iviron monastery on Mt. Athos, where it is believed to have been since the year 999,
Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques. It is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.
The icon bears the artist's signature on the front and the certificate of authenticity on the back.
We can have any image or Christian scene hand made on commission. Please take a look at an indicative list of additional icons
