Bronze reproduction of a spearhead dated to 350-325 BC and currently exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, Greece.
Spearheads were indispensable weapons on the battlefield, used by infantry soldiers known as hoplites in ancient Greek warfare. Spears were the primary weapon of the hoplite phalanx, a tightly packed formation of heavily armed soldiers that formed the backbone of Greek armies. The spear’s long reach and penetrating power made it an effective weapon for both offense and defense in the melee combat of the ancient battlefield.
