Description
Spartan bronze sword of the kind the Spartan hoplite of the phalanx carried in battle.
Sparta or Lacedaemon was a prominent city-state in ancient Greece in south-eastern Peloponnese. Around 650 BC, it rose to become the dominant military land-power in ancient Greece. (more on Spartan Art of War…)
Given its military pre-eminence, Sparta was recognized as the overall leader of the combined Greek forces during the Greco-Persian Wars, the most famous battle of which was the heroic stand at Thermopylae where 300 Spartans and 700 Thespeians fought under the leadership of King Leonidas. (find out more about Leonidas…)
The sword is offered with a marble stand to create a perfect display piece. Handmade in Greece of solid bronze, an exact museum reproduction.
