A beautiful Greek Orthodox icon of St. Cosmas & St. Damian, the Holy Unmercenaries, handmade & hand painted by an expert Greek hagiographer.
Sts. Cosmas and Damian were brothers, born in Arabia, who had become eminent for their skill in the science of medicine. Being Christians, they were filled with the spirit of charity and never took money for their services.
When the persecution under Diocletian broke out, they were apprehended and underwent various torments about the year 283. Their feast day is September 26th. They are patron saints of pharmacists.
Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques, this icon is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.
The icon bears the artist’s signature on the front and the seal of authenticity on the back.
