An exquisite Greek Orthodox Icon of St. Isaiah the Prophet.
Saint Isaiah was born in Jerusalem around 765 BC. and is considered the greatest of the Old Testament prophets. He came from a great and aristocratic family and lived permanently in Jerusalem.
Isaiah is the author of the book in the Old Testament and was described by the Church Fathers as the “evangelical prophet”. His holy relic was transported to Constantinople, during the reign of Emperor Theodosius II (408 – 450 AD) and was deposited in the church of St. Martyr Laurentius which was near Vlacherna.
The Christian Church celebrates his memory on May 9 of each year.
Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques, this icon is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.
The icon bears the artist’s signature on the front and the seal of authenticity on the back.
We can have any image or Christian scene hand made on commission. Please take a look at an indicative list of additional icons available, or contact us for more information.
