An exquisite Greek Orthodox Icon of St. Joseph of Arimathea, handmade & handpainted by an expert Greek hagiographer.
St. Joseph of Arimathea was a secret disciple of Jesus, whose body he buried in his own tomb.
Virtuous and rich, he held a high office, and he boldly gained Pontius Pilate’s permission to obtain Jesus’ body. Joseph wished to prevent the body from hanging on the cross overnight and to secure for it an honourable burial.
Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques. It is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.
The icon bears the artist’s signature on the front and the certificate of authenticity on the back.
