An exquisite Greek Orthodox Icon of St. St. Olympias the Deaconess, handmade
& handpainted by an expert Greek hagiographer.
St. Olympias (361-408 AD) was a Christian Roman noblewoman of Greek descent. She was the daughter born to the Antiochian Greek noblewoman, Alexandra and the wealthy Greek Rhetor, Seleucus.Having been widowed after two years of marriage, she dedicated her life to the church, serving as a deaconess. She would later become a friend of John Chrysostom. Her good works included building a hospital and an orphanage and looking after monks who had been led in exile from Nitria.
Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques, this icon is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.
The icon bears the artist’s signature on the front and the seal of authenticity on the back.
We can have any image or Christian scene hand made on commission. Please take a look at an indicative list of additional icons available, or contact us for more information.
