The Mocking of Jesus Christ

A beautiful Greek Orthodox icon of the Mocking of Jesus Christ , handmade & hand painted by an expert Greek hagiographer.

The scene that took place after the trial, after Pilate had announced his verdict, must have caused heaven to weep and the earth to tremble. Matthew described its heart-rending details: And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” They spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head (Matthew 27:29, 30).

Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques. It is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.

The icon bears the artist’s signature on the front and the certificate of authenticity on the back.

We can have any image or Christian scene hand made on commission. Please take a look at an indicative list of additional icons available, or contact us for more information.
