A beautiful reproduction of the famous icon of Virgin Mary Ostrobramska aka Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn, handmade & hand painted by an expert Greek hagiographer.
This is a prominent Catholic painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated by the faithful in the Chapel of the Gate of Dawn in Vilnius, Lithuania. The legend tells that in 1702, when Vilnius was captured by the Swedish army during the Great Northern War, Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn came to her people’s rescue. At dawn, the heavy iron city gates fell, crushing and killing four Swedish soldiers. After this, the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth Army successfully counter-attacked near the gate..
Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques.
The icon bears the artist’s signature on the front and the certificate of authenticity on the back.
We can have any image or Christian scene hand made on commission. Please take a look at an indicative list of additional icons available, or contact us for more information.
