Exact museum reproduction of a fine ancient Greek black figured Kylix, depicting the famous Minotaur.
Kylikes were used for drinking wine at symposia, or Greek drinking parties, where guests would recline on couches and take turns drinking from shared vessels. The shallow shape of the kylix allowed for easy drinking and socializing, while the elaborate decoration added to the festive atmosphere of the occasion.
This is a visually striking example of ancient Greek pottery, featuring the Minotaur, a half-man, half-bull monster creature roaming the Labyrinth in Crete.
Dated to 540 BC, National Archaeological Museum, Athens.
